PART 2   PRODUCTS

2.1  MANUFACTURER

  1. RPS Engineering, Inc. of Elgin, Illinois, (800) 931-1950; approved other.

2.2  GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. All sections, when in place over the tank, shall form a self-supporting, complete dome cover spanning the entire structure.
     
  2. Each panel section to be fastened to an adjacent panel; weather seal optional.  All bearing and dissimilar surfaces are gasketed to minimize leakage and corrosion
     
  3. Dome panels shall be fabricated with integral mating ribs; each panel having one end rib and one center rib.
     
  4. Each panel rib is fastened to a mounting bracket; each mounting bracket is fastened to a support ring or concrete wall.
     
  5. No more than the adjacent panels need removal to remove any one single panel.
     
  6. A suitable foundation or support ring shall be provided by others.  As-built drawings shall be submitted to RPS Engineering, Inc. for the cover support prior to submittal.  The foundation or support ring shall be constructed within the following tolerances:
    1. Roundness shall not deviate by more than ½" of the radius.
    2. Level of the mounting surface shall not deviate by more than ½".
    3. The ring or foundation shall be plumb and true; anchor bolts must also be plumb.

2.3  DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

  1. The manufacturer shall be responsible for the design of the cover in accordance to this specification.
     
  2. Design enclosure for the following service loads:
    1. Dead Load:  Self weight of cover and all appurtenances.
    2. Symmetrical Live Load:  40 lb per sq. ft. over the total horizontal projected area.
    3. Wind Load:  90 MPH
    4. Load Combinations:  Per Governing Code
  3. Panels shall be designed to be interlocking so as to be mostly weather-tight.
     
  4. All mating, bearing and dissimilar surfaces are gasketed.
     
  5. The dome shall be capable of being disassembled to enable major inspection and cleaning.  The dome must be self-supporting even when two sections are removed.
     
  6. Center stack and rain cap shall be provided with dome. Rain cap may be vented if required.
     
  7. Anchorage to support walls and structurals shall be accomplished on site after the panels are in their final position by placing suitable anchor bolts in the wall and bolting to support angles.  Bolts and washers shall be corrosive resistant stainless steel.  See details for fastener spacing.
     
  8. Design cover for thermal expansion and contraction over the ambient temperature of -30° F to +140° F.
     

2.4  MATERIALS

  1. Resin
    1. All resins used shall be general purpose series isophthalic polyester resins with a UV inhibitor.  If specific chemical corrosion resistance and fire retardant properties are specified, other resins are available to the customer.  The resin shall be suitable for service in the temperature range from -30 F to +140 F.
       .
    2. Resins shall exhibit the following properties:
      1. Compressive Strength [ksi]:  20
      2. Tensile Strength [ksi]:  20
      3. Flexural Strength [ksi]:  25
      4. Modulus of Elasticity [ksi]:  1100
      5. Glass Content by weight:  30%
      6. Minimum Material Thickness:  0.125"
      7. Barcol Hardness:  35
  2. Gel Coat
    1. Type:  Isophthalic.
    2. Color:  White unless specified otherwise.
  3. Fiberglass Reinforcing
    1. All fiber glass reinforcement shall be Type E glass and be treated with a finish compatible to the resin being used.  The glass reinforcement shall consist of chopped strand, woven roving or unidirectional roving as manufactured by RPG, Owens Corning or equivalent.
    2. Random fibers lengths are 1 ¼".
  4. Fasteners:  316 Series Stainless Steel
     
  5. Hardware:  300 Series Stainless Steel
     
  6. Gaskets:  Neoprene or approved other
